Are we independent - Personally?

This 15^th August, we will celebrate 69^th year of Independent India. We will do flag hoisting, participate in rallies or just watch leaders speak or listen to patriotic songs... We are the biggest democracy in the world, with some of the best leaders leading the country and we are certainly progressing towards growth.  Definitely Independence day is not less than a festivity.. But I have a slightly different question today.. How many of us are “Independent Individuals?”

Our typical day starts with the alarm noise - dependency on alarm clock :) (sorry.. Mobiles to be precise).. Then we check whether dudh-wala delivered milk cartons properly… Remember how our grandparents queued up the milk stations in the morning?

Throughout the day we are dependent on someone else to either cook for us, clean our house, clean our utensils, wash our clothes, even iron our clothes (yeah that’s true).... 

“A maid on holiday” sounds like a physical as well as emotional trauma…. we are dependent on auto-rickshaws, taxis, buses, drivers… our entire day is full of working with the help of others…. we call it “Co-operation”

Even in making few decisions, we first check on what other people will think or do?…take help of parents, relatives, friends and Google... and call it “informed decision”…  Have we even stopped thinking independently?

And inspite of all this we call ourselves “independent” just because we earn on our own and stay away from parents…. At the same time, secretly we still are unsure of our financial stability and we are still emotionally dependent on our relatives / support system…

I admit that all this is really inevitable…In short – in this complex technological world being independent is becoming easier as well as more difficult…

But we can certainly do one thing… Practice “self-sufficiency” occasionally…. Be “Your Own help”.. get up on your own… take no help of others…take your own decisions and when anything sounds stressful – “Meditate”…. at least practice this for few days in a year… I guarantee that you will get a divine feeling… like a child feels when he starts walking on his own… 

This independence day lets focus on being Independent – "Personally”.. because that’s the real liberation..
